Synopsis

SpiceJet is launching special flights from the United Arab Emirates on March 3 to repatriate Indian citizens. These services will connect Fujairah to Delhi, Mumbai, and Kochi. Scheduled flights will resume from March 4. This initiative aims to normalize connectivity and assist those affected by widespread airspace closures across the Middle East.

SpiceJet will operate four special flights from the United Arab Emirates on March 3 to bring back Indian nationals stranded following the sudden closure of airspace.

The airline on Tuesday said the special services will operate from Fujairah to Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi, including two flights to Mumbai, to facilitate the return of passengers at the earliest.

SpiceJet will also restore its scheduled flights between Fujairah and Delhi and between Fujairah and Mumbai from March 4, in a move aimed at normalising connectivity between the UAE and India.

The airline said it is exploring the possibility of operating additional special flights, subject to passenger demand and regulatory approvals, to assist more stranded Indian nationals.

The special flights come as Indian carriers continue to face widespread operational disruptions due to airspace closures across parts of the Middle East as the Israel-Iran war escalates.

Indian airlines cancelled 357 international flights on Monday alone, marking the third straight day of disruptions. Over 300 flights, including arrivals and departures, were cancelled at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai airports.

In three days starting February 28, Indian carriers cancelled 1,117 international flights to various destinations due to the conflict.

IndiGo cancelled more than 163 flights on Monday, while the Air India Group — Air India and Air India Express — cancelled over 110 services. SpiceJet cancelled at least 20 flights, and Akasa Air did not operate eight flights.

The civil aviation ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation to facilitate passenger relief, adding that 559 grievances have been addressed through AirSewa, social media platforms and helpline calls in coordination with airlines and stakeholders.

Several flights have also been cancelled for Tuesday. Akasa Air said its flights to and from Abu Dhabi, Doha, Jeddah, Kuwait and Riyadh remain suspended, while IndiGo said it has extended the temporary suspension of select international flights operating through parts of Middle Eastern airspace.
