Question: What are the most common reasons for hearing loss in people these days?
Dr. Ravi Mehar says that there are many reasons for reduced hearing ability. The most common are loud earphones and listening to loud music, apart from this, frequent ear infections, accumulation of earwax, in some cases genetic reasons and head injury can also cause hearing loss. Dr. Mehar explains that with increasing age, the functioning of the nerves and cells of the inner ear starts decreasing, which causes difficulty in hearing.
Question: How does excessive use of mobile and earphones affect the hearing ability?
Dr. Ravi says that nowadays the use of earphones has increased a lot among the youth. Some youth use it throughout the day, but this is not right. Because if a person listens to something on earphones for more than 8 hours daily or at a volume higher than 85 decibels (dB), it can cause damage to the cells of the inner ear. It is not known in the beginning. It is light. But if done for a long time it becomes permanent. Headache and whistling in the ears are its initial symptoms.
How safe is it to get ears cleaned by roadside vendors?
Dr. Mehar says that no person should ever get his ears cleaned by roadside vendors. These people are not medical professionals. There can be a risk of eardrum bursting if you clean your ears with these. In such a situation, never get your ears cleaned by them. If you have any kind of problem including accumulation of wax in the ears, then get it treated by a doctor.
