New Delhi, 03 March 2026: In badminton, India will begin its campaign at the All England Badminton Championships in Birmingham. Twelve Indian players are participating in the Panchayat event. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is stranded in Dubai due to the closure of Gulf airspace and hence will not be able to participate in the tournament.
Lakshya Sen is leading the team in the absence of PV Sindhu. In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen will face world number one and defending champion Shi Yu Chi of China in the first round.
In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod will face Olympic champion and world number three Chen Yufei of China. Unnati Hooda will play against eighth ranked Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand. In women’s doubles, Tressa Jolie and Gayatri Gopichand will face experienced Japanese pair Sayaka Hirota and Ayako Sakuramoto. In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will face Malaysia’s Hu Peng Ron and Cheng Su Yin.
India’s biggest title hopes once again hinge on the men’s doubles event, where world number one Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will begin their campaign against Malaysian Kang Khai Shing and Aaron Tai tomorrow.
