New Delhi: In good news for people who drink alcohol in Delhi, liquor shops will remain open in the national capital on Holi tomorrow. The government has removed Delhi from the dry day list. The Delhi Government has issued an order in this regard and excluded Holi from the list.
The list does not include Holi
Furthermore, days featuring Mahashivratri, Republic Day, Mahavir Jayanti, and Eid will remain closed. In the list that has been released, there is no mention of Holi.
According to the Excise Department’s order, liquor shops will remain open on Holi, and people will not be restricted from drinking. Dry days are usually declared for many religious and national festivals, but this time Holi has been excluded from the dry day.
The days declared as dry days for the year 2026 in an order issued by the Excise Department of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi include Republic Day (January 26), Mahashivratri (February 15), Eid-ul-Fitr (March 21), Ram Navami (March 26), and Mahavir Jayanti (March 31). These dates are clearly mentioned in the order, while Holi is not included in the list.
According to the Delhi Government, all liquor vends must remain closed on all declared dry days. However, the ban on providing liquor as a service to guests staying in hotels holding L-15 and 15-F licenses will not apply. Apart from these, the order also clarified that license holders will not be compensated for any changes to the list.
How will the decision help Delhi Govt
Keeping liquor shops open on major festivals like Holi may also help to boost the market. Sales of sweets, gujiyas, and colours are already at their peak during Holi season. In such a situation, liquor sales may also help in major profit opportunity for businesses.
