Real Madrid star Rodrygo has suffered a devastating ACL injury, ruling him out of the World Cup for Brazil. Rodrygo, 25, described it as 'one of the worst days of his life' after learning that his season is over.
The winger ruptured both his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right leg during Real's shock 1-0 loss at home to Getafe on Monday. Rodrygo had been introduced as a second-half substitute in the La Liga fixture.
It was the Brazilian's first appearance since coming on as a late sub for Real at the start of February. Challenging for the ball with Getafe's Adrian Liso near the touchline, Rodrygo's leg appeared to buckle.
Although Rodrygo played the remainder of Real's defeat, the injury has proved to be serious. "One of the worst days of my life, how much I always feared this injury," the 25-year-old posted on Instagram.

"Maybe life has been a little cruel to me lately, I don't know if I deserve this, but what can I complain about? How many wonderful things I've experienced that I didn't deserve either."
Rodrygo added: "A major obstacle has arisen in my life, in my career, which prevents me from doing what I love most for a certain period of time.
"I'm out of the rest of the season with my club and out of the World Cup with my country, a dream that everyone knows how much it means to me. And all I can do is be strong as always, this is nothing new.

"Even though it's a very difficult time, I promise not to stop here, I believe I still have many incredible things to experience and bring joy to everyone who trusts me."
The forward made five appearances for Brazil during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was set to be called up by Carlo Ancelotti for this year's edition. Brazil were drawn to face Morocco, Scotland and Haiti in Group C.
Brazil could be England's quarter-final opponents if both teams top their respective groups and advance beyond the last 32 and round-of-16. The World Cup begins on Thursday, June 11 with co-hosts Mexico facing South Africa.
