The petition has been filed under Sections 27(a), (b), (d) and Sections 36 and 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The Chengalpattu family court has issued a notice directing Vijay to appear in person on April 20.
In her petition, Sangeetha, a UK citizen, informed the court that her wedding to Vijay was first registered in the United Kingdom on July 10, 1998. A ceremonial wedding according to Hindu rites was held in August 1999 in Chennai. The couple are parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
