According to Znewsciting China Times78-year-old Heung said he did not expect his family’s asset arrangement to generate such intense public attention. He acknowledged that both of his sons were unhappy with the decision.

Heung said his eldest son, 42-year-old Jacky Heung, also Bea’s husband, called him immediately after learning of the plan and questioned why the matter had been made public. His younger son Jonathan Heung, 39, was also reportedly displeased.

“If he’s not happy, he should at least do something to make me happy. That would make the world a bit fairer,” Heung said, adding that neither of his sons currently gives him complete peace of mind.

He explained that his decision to entrust the assets to his daughter-in-law was influenced by the joy he derives from spending time with her and his grandchildren. Now advanced in age, he said he hopes to live more comfortably and focus on what brings him happiness.

“Whoever makes me happy, I will make them happy. Whoever makes me unhappy, I will make them unhappy.”

Heung and Chen, 67, are estimated to possess assets worth HK$50 billion (US$6.4 billion). Last month, the couple revealed plans to establish a family trust and appoint Hayden as its sole manager.

Their sons would receive monthly living allowances, which could be withdrawn if they stop working and rely solely on inheritance.

Heung said the reason was his concern that his two sons may lack the financial judgment necessary to safeguard the family fortune, reported The Standard.

Heung founded Win’s Entertainment in the 1980s before establishing China Star Entertainment, a Hong Kong-listed production firm linked to the rise of major film figures such as Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Stephen Chow, Andy Lau and director Johnnie To.

Hayden, 42, is best known for her role in the “Tiny Times” film franchise. She married Jacky Heung in 2019.
