The wife of former Premier League footballer Nelson Semedo has been taken to hospital following a car crash in Turkey. Marlene Alvarenga is reported to have been on her way to collect her children from school when the incident occurred.
Former Wolves and Barcelona right-back Semedo departed Molineux last summer after five years at the club. He signed for Fenerbahce on a free transfer, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Alvarenga was not driving at the time of the crash on the Northern Marmara Motorway, to the north of Istanbul. Reports suggest that the unnamed driver lost control of the vehicle, which then flipped onto its side.
Semedo, 32, rushed to his wife's side at the hospital upon hearing of the collision. She is understood to have sustained only minor injuries.

"We are saddened to learn of the traffic accident involving Marlene Semedo, the wife of our football player Nelson Semedo, and we send our best wishes to her and her family," his club said in a statement. The footballer and his wife have a daughter and a son together.
Semedo is currently out of action due to an injury he suffered while playing for Fenerbahce. The club confirmed he suffered medial ligament damage following a recent match against Antalyaspor.
The Portugal international was withdrawn just 20 minutes into the fixture, which ended all square. Domenico Tedesco's squad remain undefeated in the league following 24 matches but occupy second spot, four points behind Galatasaray.
He has also featured regularly for the club in Europe, where Fener were defeated by Benfica in the Champions League play-offs before reaching the knockout play-offs in the Europa League, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Nottingham Forest.
Semedo, who played for Barcelona before his five-year Wolves spell, was brought to Turkey by then-manager Jose Mourinho over the summer. Mourinho was dismissed in August following that Champions League elimination, however, with Tedesco assuming control.
Fenerbahce have confirmed manager Tedesco will be absent from this week's cup fixture against Gaziantep. The German boss is "undergoing treatment for a severe infection," according to a club statement.
Victory over Gaziantep would guarantee Fenerbahce reach the quarter-finals of the cup. The two teams are level following three group stage matches, with Gaziantep ahead on goals scored, though the two best third-placed sides will also advance.
