Yadgiri: Holi was celebrated with enthusiasm in the city and various parts of the district on Wednesday. On Tuesday night (March 3), people performed the ritual of burning Kama, and the ashes were collected. On Wednesday morning, the festival was celebrated by splashing colours.
From early morning, groups of youth and children gathered in different localities of the city, moving around neighbourhoods to the sound of traditional drums and applying colours on one another. Children, women and elders participated in the celebrations, roaming the streets and exchanging Holi greetings. Young children used water guns to spray colours on elders. Houses where people played with colours were decorated in bright shades, and the streets bore visible marks of the celebrations.
Groups of youth and women from various tandas moved through residential areas collecting donations as part of the festivities. Youngsters danced energetically to the drum beats. The traditional drum dance that began in the morning continued till afternoon.
Some shops opened after noon. Youth who had immersed themselves in colours until around 1 pm later went to rivers and lakes to bathe. The usual Holi gathering held every year at Gandhi Circle saw comparatively fewer people this time at Mahatma Gandhi Circle in the city.
Traditional ‘Bandi Holi’ procession
As part of the festival, the traditional ‘Bandi Holi’ was celebrated as in previous years. An украшed cart carrying barrels filled with colours was taken out from Kolivada to Gandhi Circle. This long-standing tradition began in Ward No. 9, and once flagged off, the colourful cart passed through Mylapur Agasi and Chakrakatta route, covering old Yadgiri localities before finally reaching Gandhi Circle.
