Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the names of a total of 4 candidates from Maharashtra for the Rajya Sabha elections. Apart from Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde, the names of two more leaders are included in this list. Ramrao Wadkute and Maya Chintaman Ivanate will also be sent to Rajya Sabha. Interestingly, Vinod Tawde, who has been working in the organization for a long time, is going to become a member of Parliament for the first time. Before this he had been a minister in the Maharashtra government.
According to the number of MLAs in Maharashtra, Mahayuti is likely to win a total of 6 seats and Maha Vikas Aghadi is likely to win only one seat. Now BJP has fielded four candidates, hence speculations are being made that the remaining seats may go to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena. Parth Pawar can be sent to Rajya Sabha from NCP.
Who is Maya Chintaman Ivanate?
The only woman in the list of these four candidates is Maya Chintan Ivanate. Maya, who hails from Nagpur, Maharashtra, has previously been the Mayor of Nagpur and a member of the National Scheduled Tribes Commission. She is considered close to President Draupadi Murmu. His candidature is being linked to tribal voters.
Who is Ramrao Vadakute?
The fourth name is surprising everyone because very few people know Ramrao Vadakute. Ramrao Vadakute, who started his political innings from NCP, comes from the Dhangar community and is said to have a good hold on this community. He was nominated as MLC by the Governor in 2014 and joined BJP just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
It is believed that keeping 2029 in mind, just as BJP has sent Maya Chintaman Ivanate to the Rajya Sabha, in the same way Ramrao Wadkute is also being sent to the Rajya Sabha to woo the Dhangar community.
Decision has not been taken yet in MVA
At the same time, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi is likely to win only one seat. The tenure of Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar) is ending. Now apart from these two parties, Congress Party is also staking its claim on this seat. No party is ready to back down, hence no decision has been taken on the name of the candidate yet. Sharad Pawar had earlier indicated that he would not contest the elections but to strengthen its claim, NCP is putting forward his name.
