Bengaluru: A case has been registered at the Banashankari Police Station against four people for allegedly cheating a young woman of ₹25 lakh by promising to secure her an MBBS seat.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Lalbabu, father of student Ayesha Khathum. Police have booked four accused, including K.P. Sharath, and have launched a search to trace them. The accused allegedly collected money by promising an MBBS seat at KIMS College in the city.
According to police, Lalbabu was trying to secure an MBBS seat for his daughter in a reputed college in Bengaluru. During this time, he came into contact with Syed Tabrez and Shamsher Beg, who claimed they had links with the chairman of KIMS Medical College. The accused then introduced K.P. Sharath as the chairman of the medical college.
Lalbabu met Sharath in Banashankari 2nd Stage. During the meeting, the accused allegedly assured them of an MBBS seat for Ayesha Khathum and collected her academic documents, the complaint stated.
A few days later, the accused met Lalbabu at a hotel and demanded ₹25 lakh in exchange for the seat. Believing their claims, the victim’s family paid ₹10 lakh in phases through UPI and cheque. Later, another ₹15 lakh was paid in cash.
However, after collecting the money, the accused neither secured the MBBS seat nor returned the amount, police said.
