Sanju Samson, who showed heroics in the Super 8s stage game of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, has come under scrutiny after his emotional celebration.

The wk-batter made a solid 97* run knock off 50 deliveries during India’s 195-run chase, guiding the side to win the game and qualify for the semi-finals.

Sanju Samson got emotional and threw his helmet on the ground before thanking god. According to reports, this celebration could be considered a violation of the ICC Code of Conduct regarding player behaviour.

Hence, it is speculated that Sanju could be banned from the semifinal game against England due to a violation of Conduct.

Losing the wk-batter ahead of the semifinals could be a concern for the home side, but the factor for chances of Sanju Samson being suspended for a game is very thin.

Under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players can be penalised for “abuse of cricket equipment”.

This includes kits like helmets, bats or stumps. However, it is considered an offence if a player deliberately, recklessly or aggressively causes damage to an advertisement board, boundary fences, dressing room fixtures or other equipment.

Some reports suggest that Sanju Samson came under a level 1 offence in the ICC Code of Conduct. The violation could possibly claim 50% of the match fee or a deduction of 1-2 demerit points.

However, former international umpire Anil Chaudhary had dismissed speculations, saying that Sanju Samson’s gesture was a part of an emotional celebration and did not deliberate damage to equipment or an act of dissent.

India is set to face England in the 2nd semifinals on March 05 at Wankhede, and the winner of the game will face New Zealand in the finals of the tournament on March 08 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
