If someone gets into the habit of drinking alcohol, not only his health and financial condition gets affected but the family also gets troubled. The family members want the person to give up his alcoholism so that everything can become normal, in this desire they also go to temples, where they pray to God that the person will get rid of his alcoholism. A temple with a similar belief has been found in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed in this temple that whoever comes here gets free from alcoholism.
The temple was built in 2005 in Untakallu village of Bommanhal mandal. According to many beliefs and local people, the specialty of this temple is that wearing a Tulsi garland here helps in getting rid of alcohol addiction. On every Ekadashi day, about two thousand people addicted to alcohol take initiation by wearing the garland of God. They fear that if they touch alcohol after wearing the garland, God's wrath will fall on them. This fear stops them from taking drugs again.
How is the daily routine for 41 days?
The person wearing the rosary is given initiation for 41 days. During this time, one has to follow strict rules like taking bath early in the morning, reciting bhajans and prayers regularly, eating satvik food and sleeping on the floor. This change in lifestyle brings a new turn in life. People who have worn the rosary say that by following all these rules for 41 days, the thought of drinking alcohol gradually reduces.
People associated with the temple say that stories of families ruined by alcohol, properties sold, lives ruined are heard here, but those who have given up this habit and started a good life after wearing the rosary, are living witnesses of this temple. Devotees not only from Andhra Pradesh but also from Karnataka and Maharashtra come every month to wear garlands on the day of Ekadashi. Some people are tired of spending thousands of rupees visiting de-addiction centres, but local people say that people in Unthakallu are giving up this habit by wearing garlands with devotion and free of cost.
The temple is being recognized as a de-addiction center
Local people say that many people have not consumed alcohol again even after completing 41 days of initiation. This is a fact which further strengthens the faith of the devotees. This is the reason why the Panduranga Swamy temple located in this small village is now being given special recognition as a spiritual de-addiction center.
