India Secures Thrilling Semi-Final Win Against England in T20 World Cup 2026

In a nail-biting semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, India emerged victorious over England at the renowned Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, marking their second consecutive entry into the finals.


The match turned into a high-scoring affair, with India setting a formidable target of 253 runs. They clinched the win by a narrow margin of just seven runs. The total runs scored in the match reached 499, making it the second-highest aggregate in Men's T20I history, following the record of 517 runs set during a match between South Africa and West Indies in 2023. Notably, India also features in the third and fourth-highest aggregates, with 496 runs against New Zealand and 488 runs against West Indies in previous matches.


Samson Shines with Batting Prowess

Opting to bat first, India posted an impressive score of 253 runs. Sanju Samson was the standout performer, scoring 89 runs, supported by Shivam Dube's 43 runs off 25 balls and Ishan Kishan's quickfire 39 runs from just 18 balls. Contributions from Tilak Varma (21 off 7 balls) and Hardik Pandya (27 off 12 balls) further bolstered India's total, setting a record for the highest score in a T20 World Cup knockout match.


For England, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid each took two wickets, while Jofra Archer claimed the vital wicket of Varma.


England's Bethell Shines but Falls Short

Jacob Bethell's remarkable maiden T20I century kept England competitive throughout the match, but they ultimately fell short by seven runs.


Record-Breaking Boundary Count

The match set a new record for the most sixes in a T20 World Cup game, with a total of 34 sixes hit, surpassing the previous record of 31 sixes from a match between Zimbabwe and West Indies. In total, 73 boundaries were struck, including 39 fours and 34 sixes, also a record for the tournament, eclipsing the previous best of 61 boundaries in a match between England and South Africa in 2016.


Final Showdown Awaits

India is now set to face New Zealand in the final, scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
