IND vs ENG ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2026: India defeated England by 7 runs in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday and made it to the finals. The biggest hero of this victory was Sanju Samson, who played a explosive inning of 89 runs in 42 balls and also won the Player of the Match award. However, the story of this victory was not limited to Samson’s innings alone. Many players of the Indian team decided the course of the match with their performance and destroyed England’s challenge.
Let us tell you that in this match, Team India, batting first, scored a huge score of 253 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. The England team, which came to chase the target, also fought hard, but could score only 246 runs after losing 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Ultimately, India secured a place in the final by winning by 7 runs on the basis of excellent bowling in the last overs.
Samson-Ishaan’s record partnership
The biggest turning point for India in the semi-final match was the partnership between Samson and Ishan Kishan. Both the batsmen created a new record by adding 97 runs in 45 balls for the second wicket.
This became the biggest partnership for India so far in the knockout matches of the T20 World Cup. Earlier, this record was in the name of veteran all-rounders Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa in the 2007 T20 World Cup, who had added 84 runs against Australia.
Let us tell you, Abhishek Sharma once again disappointed and he left after scoring 9 runs, but Ishan Kishan, who came to bat at number three, made a fast start and scored 39 runs in 18 balls, due to which the England bowlers were under pressure from the very beginning.
Middle order also played an important role
Shivam Dube played an important role in taking India to a strong score by scoring 43 runs in 25 balls. Both these innings (Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dubey) provided proper support to Samson’s innings and kept the pressure on England.
Apart from this, the contribution of the middle order was also very important in India’s victory. Tilak Verma played a fast innings, scoring 21 runs in just 7 balls i.e. batting at a strike rate of 300 and maintained the run pace.
Hardik’s all-round performance
Hardik Pandya once again proved his usefulness in a big match. Batting first, he played a quick innings of 27 runs in 12 balls and later made an important contribution in bowling as well.
Hardik took 2 important wickets in his four over spell and kept England’s run rate under control. Not only this, after Bumrah, he emerged as the second best bowler of the team, his all-round performance proved to be very important for Team India in the decisive moments of the match.
Bumrah’s 12 balls changed the match
The biggest difference in India’s victory was seen during bowling. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah played an important role in stopping England’s run rate. On this, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan also said that Bumrah’s bowling was as important as Samson’s innings.
Bumrah bowled two overs in the crucial phase of the match (death overs)—
- Gave only 8 runs in the 16th over
- Only 6 runs in the 18th over
Centurion Jacob Bethel (105 runs) also could not do anything special on the field, he too had no answer to Bumrah’s yorker. These 12 balls completely broke the pace of England’s run chase.
Axar Patel’s fielding also became special
India’s vice-captain and star all-rounder Axar Patel showed excellence in bowling as well as fielding. He shocked England’s hopes by taking 1 clean bowl as well as three brilliant catches in the match. Many cricket experts including fans believe that if seen from fielding point of view, Akshar should have got the title of Player of the Match.
victory achieved through team work
If we look at the entire match, this victory was not the story of any one player, but of the collective performance of the entire team. Samson’s aggressive batting, Kishan’s fast start, the middle order’s support, Hardik’s all-round performance and Bumrah’s tight bowling—all these together laid the foundation for India’s victory against England.
Now the next goal of Team India will be to win the T20 World Cup trophy once again by performing brilliantly against New Zealand in the final match. Indian fans hope that the same teamwork with which the semi-final was won will be seen in the final as well.
