Synopsis

Delhi Metro Phase V: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two critical extensions of the Delhi Metro network—the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur section (Pink Line) and the Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park corridor (Magenta Line)—on March 8, 2026. These projects, costing over ₹18,300 crore, will introduce India’s first fully operational 'Ring Metro' and include one of the system’s highest elevated sections at 28.36 metres.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate two major extensions of the Delhi Metro’s Pink and Magenta lines this Sunday, marking the completion of India’s first fully operational Ring Metro circuit. The inauguration, scheduled for March 8 at DDA Utsav Sthal-3, includes the 12.3 km Majlis Park-Maujpur stretch and the 9.92 km Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor, collectively worth over ₹18,300 crore. These additions are expected to significantly de-congest North and East Delhi roads while providing high-speed connectivity to the city's key residential and commercial hubs.

Which stations are on the new Pink Line 'Ring Metro' section?

The 12.3 km extension from Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur officially completes the 71.5 km loop, creating a continuous "Ring Metro" for the national capital. This elevated section features a new bridge over the Yamuna and a unique double-decker viaduct. The eight new stations serving this corridor are Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, and Maujpur-Babarpur.

What is the route for the Magenta Line extension?

The Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park corridor is a 9.92 km elevated extension that brings the total length of the Magenta Line to 49 km. Notably, this route contains an engineering marvel where the tracks reach a height of 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest points in the entire DMRC network. The stations on this section include Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa, and Majlis Park.

Which new corridors are getting a foundation stone?

Beyond the inaugurations, PM Modi will launch the construction of three Phase-V (A) corridors. This includes the 9.913 km underground Central Vista corridor (RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha) with stations like Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, and India Gate. Additionally, the Golden Line will see two extensions: a 2.263 km underground stretch to Aerocity-Terminal 1 and a 3.9 km elevated link from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, improving airport access for residents of Faridabad and Noida.
