WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new optional premium subscription plan for its consumer app. This plan could offer paid users additional customization and convenience features. The proposed tier, called WhatsApp Plus, is in development for both Android and iOS versions of the messaging platform. While the core messaging experience is expected to remain free, paid plans could offer additional tools for personalizing the interface and improving chat management.

WhatsApp Plus Premium Subscription Plan in Development
According to a post by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Plus may place a greater emphasis on visual customization. Subscribers will reportedly be able to change the app theme, adjust the accent color in the interface, and choose from several alternative app icons. Approximately 14 new icon styles are in development, along with several color options that could allow users to personalize the app's look and feel.

The subscription tier could also increase WhatsApp's chat pinning limit. Currently, users can pin three conversations, but WhatsApp Plus subscribers will reportedly be able to pin up to 20 chats, allowing for an additional 17 conversations beyond the current limit.

Subscribers may also receive exclusive ringtones designed specifically for WhatsApp. Each tone is expected to have a unique style and help users easily distinguish between incoming WhatsApp calls and notifications from other apps.

The report also suggests that more subscriber-only features may arrive over time. WhatsApp Plus users may reportedly receive exclusive sticker packs that are not available to free users. Some message reactions may also be more immersive and interactive, making conversations more dynamic.

The report states that even if subscriptions are launched, WhatsApp's core functions are expected to remain free for everyone. According to the information received, users will continue to send and receive messages, make voice and video calls, share media, participate in group chats, and access privacy and security features without paying.

WhatsApp has not yet confirmed the pricing of the plan or announced a launch timeline. The report states that the features associated with WhatsApp Plus may also change before the company decides to roll out the subscription more broadly.
