UK snow maps indicate England, Scotland and Wales are to be battered by blizzards in March, with 12 cities hit. Forecasts suggest a wave of wintry weather could sweep across the country this month, bringing snow to parts of England, Scotland and Wales.
Fresh charts from WXCharts, based on data from the European ECMWF model, indicate snow could fall across swathes of Britain by March 18, with freezing overnight temperatures helping wintry showers turn increasingly disruptive. The latest maps show temperatures plunging close to 0C or below in parts of Scotland and northern England, while many other areas could wake up to near-freezing conditions as the cold air spreads south. Separate snow-depth charts suggest several parts of the country could see accumulating snow, particularly over higher ground and northern regions, with maps indicating totals of up to around 9cm in parts of Scotland and roughly 7cm in northern England, while lower levels of 1cm to 3cm are possible further south.
The charts show bands of wintry precipitation moving in from the Atlantic before interacting with colder air over the UK, creating conditions favourable for snow rather than rain in several regions.
Snow depth projections currently show patchy accumulations across Scotland, northern England, Wales and parts of the Midlands, with some upland areas potentially seeing several centimetres settle.
Despite the eye-catching charts, forecasters stress the outlook remains uncertain as the weather pattern evolves.
However, with cold air still capable of pushing southwards at this time of year, late-season snow events remain possible across the UK, particularly when Atlantic systems collide with colder air masses.
If the colder scenario shown on the latest charts materialises, parts of the country could briefly see a return to wintry conditions.

The situation could still change as the weather pattern develops over the coming days.
Snowfall totals and the exact locations affected will depend on how colder air interacts with incoming Atlantic weather systems.
However, the latest charts suggest parts of the UK could see a brief return to wintry conditions before spring fully takes hold.
