Officers responded to a report around 7:40 AM local time, near the Grand Canal Trail and 27th Place, where they found an adult woman unresponsive on the canal bank. Upon arrival, they confirmed her death but have not disclosed her identity or the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Authorities in Pima County have stated that they have no evidence linking the woman's death in Phoenix to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.
