Bongaon: West Bengal Police on Sunday arrested teo Bangladeshi nationals near the Bongaon border area for allegedly entering India and staying in the country. Both of them are also allegedly linked to the murder of Bangladeshi political activist Sharif Osman Hadi.
Both the accused have been identified as Rahul alias Faisal Karum Masud and Alamgir Hossain. As per the police, both Bangladeshi nationals were trying to take shelter in West Bengal and were planning to return to the neighbouring country.
Bengal police releases statementReleasing a statement, the police said, “There was secret credible information that two Bangladeshi nationals, after committing serious crimes including extortion and murder in Bangladesh, had fled their country and illegally entered India, and were trying to take shelter in the border area of Bongaon with the intention of crossing back into Bangladesh when an opportunity arises”.
“Acting on this information, a raid was conducted, and two Bangladeshi nationals were intercepted, namely (1) Rahul @ Faisal Karim Masud (37 years), resident of Patuakhali, Bangladesh, and (2) Alamgir Hossain (34 years), resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh from the area of Bongaon in the intervening night of 7/8-03-2026,” it added.
‘Accused were planning to leave India’Sharing further details, the police said that during the probe, it was revealed that both of them were behind the murder of Osman Hadi. “They illegally entered Indian territory through Meghalaya border and moved through different places in India and finally, came to Bongaon, West Bengal, with the intention of crossing back into Bangladesh,” the police added.

Pointing out that a probe into the case has started, the police further said that te accused were sent to police custody after they were produced before the concerned court.
Osman Hadi was killed in Dhaka in December last year. A student leader,, he was part of the protests that overthrew Sheikh Hasina Government from power. After his attack in December 2025, he was taken to Singapore for treatment, where he succumbed to injuries.
