Be it the right to vote or considering women as the embodiment of Amba, Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi Devi, the rights and respect of women have always been paramount in India. On the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’, an old video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also viral, in which he had said that India has historically considered women not as small or second class, but as the highest form.

‘Modi Archive’ has shared an old video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media platform ‘X’. This is from a meeting in 2003, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. In his address, he said, “It took more than a century for some of the oldest democracies in the world (America) to give women the right to vote, whereas India had given women the right to vote in 1947 itself.”

The post read, “This was before the enactment of the law, the national mission, the policy framework and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which reserved 33 percent seats for women in Parliament. Twenty years ago, a Chief Minister was already asking why the power of women should be limited to the family only? Why not extend to the gram sabha, the district or every room where decisions are taken?”

Another post said, “In 2003, Narendra Modi presented a civilizational vision, saying that India has historically treated women not as inferior or second-rate, but as supreme beings. He said that no tradition in the world has treated women as Gods.”

The post on ‘Modi Archive’ further reads, “Women are depicted as Amba, Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi, each considered an incarnation of God. Centuries before today’s debate about the role of women in society, India had laid down the rule that Nari Shakti, or feminine power, should be revered and respected.”

Earlier, on Sunday, PM Modi said on ‘International Women’s Day’, “Women in every field are shaping India’s progress with their determination, creativity and unparalleled enthusiasm. Their achievements inspire our country and further strengthen our collective resolve to build a ‘developed India’.”

“Women empowerment is at the heart of our diverse plans and initiatives. We are committed to creating opportunities that enable every woman to realize her full potential and contribute to India’s growth journey,” she posted on

The achievements of India’s women power are a matter of pride and a strong reminder of the transformative role they play in nation building. As India moves forward, the aspirations and contributions of women will continue to guide our collective journey towards a strong and prosperous nation.”
