Pressure can break confidence, even for top athletes. For Abhishek Sharma, this tournament was an emotional rollercoaster but it ended in unforgettable style.
The explosive opener played a match-defining knock in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, smashing 52 runs off just 21 balls. Opening alongside Sanju Samson after India were put in to bat, Abhishek Sharma helped set the tone early. India piled up a massive 255/5, a total that proved far beyond New Zealand’s reach and sealed a commanding 96-run victory.
After the match, Abhishek opened up about the difficult journey behind the scenes. He admitted that he struggled with self-doubt during the tournament and had never faced a phase like this before.
He said that the captain and the coach never stopped believing in him, even when he questioned himself. Taking the competition one game at a time wasn’t easy but the team’s constant support helped him stay focused.

Abhishek Sharma shared that he had performed well throughout the year but couldn’t find his rhythm in the biggest tournament. At one point, he became so overwhelmed that he wanted to speak personally with the captain and the coach. Their response stayed with him, they told him that he would win important matches for the team. The support from fans during tough moments also meant a lot to him.
Under captain Suryakumar Yadav, India created history by lifting a record third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. A powerful batting show, led by Sanju Samson’s 89 and Abhishek Sharma’s blazing half-century, gave India total control after a dominant powerplay.

New Zealand never recovered while chasing the steep target. They were bowled out for 159, with Jasprit Bumrah delivering a match-winning spell that included four crucial wickets.
Guided by coach Gautam Gambhir, the Indian side displayed depth, unity and consistency throughout the tournament. The triumph made them the first team to defend a T20 World Cup title successfully and they celebrated the historic achievement on the home soil.
