A Shocking Case of Misunderstanding

In a remarkable incident from Kanpur, a dream led to a real-life nightmare for an Air Force member, who faced accusations of molesting his underage sister-in-law. After enduring a seven-year legal struggle and spending 19 days in jail, he was finally acquitted when the victim admitted that the entire incident was merely a dream.

The young man, stationed as a corporal in Pune, got married in February 2019. Shortly after, his 15-year-old sister-in-law moved in with them. On the night of March 8, 2019, the girl suddenly began screaming, claiming that her brother-in-law had assaulted her while she was asleep. Approximately five months later, her father filed a police report at the Naubasta police station.

‘It Was Just a Dream’

During the trial in the special POCSO court, the victim's testimony shocked everyone. She stated, "That night at 9 PM, I took an antibiotic and fell asleep. I dreamt that my brother-in-law had grabbed me, which made me scream. Nothing like that happened in reality." Furthermore, both her father and elder sister (the accused's wife) acknowledged in court that they had filed the case based on confusion and misunderstanding.

Seven Years of Struggle and 19 Days in Jail

Senior advocate Karim Ahmed Siddiqui explained that the Air Force personnel paid a heavy price for this misunderstanding. In November 2019, he faced serious charges including assault, defamation, and sexual harassment. He spent 19 days behind bars. However, the court has now cleared him of all charges based on the testimonies of witnesses and the victim's statement.
