Google Update – Google will tell you which app consumes more battery, let’s find out

Many times, due to the smartphone’s battery draining quickly, there are some apps that keep using the CPU continuously in the background. For the convenience of users and better battery management, Google is now taking strict steps against such apps. Now on Google Play Store, those apps will be shown with warning label which consume more battery than necessary, let’s know the complete details about it.

Warning label will appear on Play Store

In a blog post, Google explained that “Wake Lock Technical Quality Treatment” is being implemented in the Google Play Store. This process has started from March 1.

Action on high battery consuming apps

Apps found to frequently use partial wake lock will be shown with a warning on the Play Store.

Such apps will also be removed from features like recommendations and discovery surface of Play Store.

Its purpose is to motivate developers to create better and battery-friendly apps.

What is Partial Wake Lock?

Partial Wake Lock is a system mechanism that allows apps to keep the CPU active even after the phone’s screen is turned off. This feature is designed for some important purposes, but many apps misuse it, due to which the phone’s battery starts draining rapidly.

When will the app be considered in “bad behavior”?

According to Google, if an app: In the last 28 days:

More than 5% users in session

after the screen turns off

Keeps Partial Wake Lock active for an average of 2 hours or more,

So it will be considered in Bad Behavior Threshold and a warning will be visible for it on Play Store.

What will be the benefit to the users?

It will be easier to identify apps that consume a lot of battery

Battery life of the phone will be better

Developers will be forced to create more optimized apps

With this new step, it is expected that Android users will get better battery and the quality of the apps available on Play Store will also be better than before.
