Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian cricket team, expressed his gratitude after a remarkable victory in the recent T20 World Cup. He revealed that prior to the tournament, he had a meeting with MS Dhoni, who encouraged him to play with bravery. On Sunday, India made history by defeating New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final, marking the first time a team has successfully defended their title. This win also made India the only nation to secure three T20 World Cup championships.

Celebrating Five Years in International Cricket

Having debuted at the age of 30 in 2021, Suryakumar celebrated his fifth anniversary in international cricket by leading the Men in Blue to their record-setting third T20 World Cup title. This victory is particularly significant as it was achieved on home soil.

Dhoni's Encouraging Words

"His reaction was incredible. I met him before the tournament, and he shared valuable advice on how to approach ICC tournaments. He emphasized that we have a fantastic team and just need to play with courage to secure victory," Suryakumar shared with reporters.

Aiming for Olympic Gold

Following India's T20 World Cup success, Suryakumar has set his sights on winning an Olympic gold medal in 2028. He stated, "Our next goal is to secure Olympic gold for India in 2028. The T20 World Cup will also take place that year, and we will strive for a T20 hat-trick."

"Winning the World Cup feels amazing, especially since India hosted the ICC Tournament. Achieving victory in India is truly special," he concluded.

Suryakumar's Performance in the Tournament

Throughout the tournament, Suryakumar emerged as the 10th-highest run-scorer, accumulating 242 runs across nine matches. He maintained an average of 30.25 and a strike rate exceeding 136, including one half-century against the USA during the group stage.
