Sanju Samson’s redemption tale in T20 World Cup 2026
Samson scripted a fairytale redemption in the T20 World Cup 2026. From not being considered in the playing XI at the start of the tournament to winning the Player of the Tournament award at the end of it, Samson showcased that hard work and dedication pay off. The right-hander had played only one game in the tournament until India’s humiliating 76-run defeat against South Africa in their Super 8 opener.
As India were handed a reality check by the Proteas, the team management scrambled to make changes, bringing Samson back at the top with misfiring Abhishek Sharma. Samson grabbed his chances by both hands and went on to smash a match-winning 97 in India’s must-win Super 8 match against West Indies to propel the hosts into the semifinals.
Samson scored 89 apiece in the semifinal and the final to play a key role in India’s triumph. He finished the tournament with an impressive 321 runs in just 5 innings at an astounding average of 80.25 and a strike close to 200. He finished as the highest run-getter for India in the tournament and was awarded the Player of the Tournament award.
