Tiny clusters of neurons grown from stem cells are placed on microchips, where they learn and respond to signals, kind of like playing video games (they've even mastered "Pong" and "Doom").
CEO Hon Weng Chong points out that these living networks can adapt and learn in ways traditional computers just can't, all while staying cool with minimal energy.
The Melbourne site is announced to have a capacity of 120 units, but global expansion is already underway. In Singapore, a new partnership could scale up to 1,000 units.
Beyond faster computing, this tech could help speed up drug discovery and unlock new insights into brain diseases.
