Aamir Khan's Insights on Social Media and Corruption
Renowned Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is celebrated for his films that convey powerful social messages. His notable works, including PK, Taare Zameen Par, Dangal, and 3 Idiots, have significantly impacted audiences. Known for his candid views on various issues, Aamir recently participated in an event where he candidly discussed his struggles with Instagram Reels addiction, as well as broader topics like corruption and the Epstein Files.
Aamir Khan on Social Media DependencyDuring the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year 2026 event held at Mumbai’s Gateway of India, Aamir engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He expressed concerns about the pervasive influence of social media on individuals' lives. While he acknowledged the positive aspects, he confessed to spending excessive time on YouTube and Instagram Reels, which has replaced his previous habit of reading books, even amidst a hectic schedule. He noted that the algorithms designed to keep users engaged often lead to a loss of time awareness.
Impact of Social Media on YouthAamir highlighted that while adults might manage their social media usage, the implications for children could be far more severe. He mentioned that several nations are contemplating restrictions on social media for those under 16, stating, "I wonder how it’ll be implemented but the thought process is correct as their minds are getting corrupted. Unke brains ki re-wiring ho rahi hai.” He believes that constant exposure to social media could hinder the healthy development of young minds.
Devendra Fadnavis RespondsIn response, Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged that some Indian states are also considering measures to limit social media access for minors, indicating that Maharashtra might look into strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of social media on youth.
Aamir Khan on Corruption and the Epstein CaseDuring the discussion, Aamir also addressed the topic of corruption, referencing the ancient text Arthashastra to illustrate that corruption has been a persistent issue throughout history. He emphasized that corruption transcends monetary aspects, citing the Epstein Files as an example of a more profound level of corruption. The Epstein controversy involves serious allegations of long-term s*x trafficking of minors, facilitated by his wealth and powerful connections, which gained global attention following a contentious plea deal in 2008 and his subsequent death in custody in 2019.
Aamir also recounted an experience from his trip to Japan, where he observed that people there typically refuse to accept tips. He shared a story about visiting a Karaoke bar with Kiran Rao, where even the 18-year-old owner declined his tip, reflecting the cultural emphasis on honesty.
Aamir Khan's Upcoming ProjectsOn the professional front, Aamir was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par (2025) and is currently producing Lahore 1947, featuring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, which is slated for a 2026 release. Additionally, he has launched a YouTube channel named Aamir Khan Talkies.
