Google upgrades Gemini in Google Workspace with powerful AI automation features

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how people work with digital tools, and Google has taken another major step in that direction. The tech giant has introduced new upgrades to its AI assistant across Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, making it far more powerful and collaborative. With the latest update, users can now generate entire files from scratch using just a prompt through Gemini in Google Workspace.

AI can now create documents from a blank page

Earlier, the AI assistant mainly helped improve or edit existing files. It could suggest better wording in Docs, recommend layouts in Slides, or assist with formulas in Sheets.

Now, Gemini in Google Workspace can start from a completely blank document and generate a full first draft using natural language prompts. The AI pulls relevant information from users’ emails, files, and even the internet to create structured content.

A new “Match writing style” feature allows the AI to replicate the user’s tone by analysing previous documents. Another option called “Match doc format” helps align the output with the formatting style of a reference file, making the content look consistent and professional.

Smarter spreadsheets and automated data organisation

The update also significantly improves how Gemini in Google Workspace works inside Sheets. Users can now describe the spreadsheet they want, and the AI will automatically create and organise the table.

For complex projects, a feature called “Fill with Gemini” generates custom entries, categorises data, and summarises information within the spreadsheet. The system can also pull relevant details from search results to fill missing data fields.

This makes Gemini in Google Workspace especially useful for professionals who regularly handle data-heavy tasks.

AI-generated presentations and intelligent Drive search

Slides has also received similar automation upgrades. With a single prompt, Gemini in Google Workspace can generate a fully editable slide complete with templates, layouts, images, text, and diagrams.

Users can then continue editing the presentation collaboratively with the AI assistant. Google says it is also working on a new feature that will allow users to generate an entire presentation deck automatically from one prompt.

Another update is coming to Google Drive. A new AI Overview now appears at the top of search results, summarising key information from files. Users can also use the “Ask Gemini in Drive” tool to ask questions about documents, emails, calendar entries, and web content.

Currently, the new Gemini in Google Workspace features are available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. While Docs, Sheets, and Slides updates are rolling out globally, the Drive AI tools are limited to users in the United States and currently support only English.
