The specialty of kokum syrup is its sour-sweet taste and beautiful reddish color. This syrup is also very light on the stomach and helps improve digestion. Many homes in Maharashtra have a tradition of making kokum syrup during summers. Chilled kokum syrup is instantly refreshing when guests arrive or when you return home from the sun. Material

  • 10–12 dried kokum flowers
  • 3–4 tbsp sugar (as per taste)
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • A pinch of black salt
  • 2 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional)

  • First wash the dry kokum flowers in clean water.
  • Soak kokum flowers in 1 cup of warm water in a bowl for 15–20 minutes.
  • When the kokum is soft, mash it well with your hands or a spoon, so that its color and flavor come out in the water.
  • Now strain this mixture, add sugar and stir till the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Add remaining water, cumin and black salt to it and mix well.
  • Add ice cubes to the glass and pour kokum syrup over it.
  • Top with mint leaves and serve with chilled kokum syrup.
  • This sour-sweet and refreshing kokum syrup cools the body and also helps in energizing during hot summer days.
