New Delhi: During a Lok Sabha session on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, made a significant interjection regarding the motion to dismiss Om Birla from his role as Speaker. He expressed frustration over being repeatedly silenced in the House.
In response to BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad, who emphasized the importance of careful language in discussions about national security, Gandhi asserted that the Lok Sabha is not owned by any single party but represents the entire nation.
"We are often interrupted when we attempt to speak. The Lok Sabha is for all citizens, not just one political faction," he stated.
Earlier in the debate concerning the resolution against Birla, Prasad remarked that the motion should not be used as a tool to fulfill a leader's ego, expressing disappointment that such a discussion was taking place.
He referenced parliamentary practices, urging the Leader of the Opposition to choose his words wisely, particularly regarding national security, and to avoid engaging in partisan politics.
This comment sparked a strong reaction from opposition members.
Subsequently, Dilip Saikia, who was overseeing the session, permitted Gandhi to address the accusations.
