Chelsea star repeats Tottenham howler as Reece James reacts to PSG nightmare
Football | March 12, 2026 7:39 AM CST

Filip Jorgensen made a huge mistake during the second half of Chelsea's defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The 23-year-old goalkeeper was at fault for the French giant's third goal of the evening following a costly lapse of judgement.

Bradley Barcola intercepted a sloppy pass by Jorgensen, which fell to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the edge of the box. The PSG winger teed up Vitinha, who then chipped the Denmark international.

Reece James couldn't believe his eyes, throwing his arms in the air. Suddenly, the floodgates opened in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 at the Parc des Princes, with Luis Enrique's side finding a fourth and a fifth.

The mistake by Jorgensen in the final quarter of an hour, which was similar to what Antonín Kinský did during Tottenham Hotspur's defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, invited pressure from PSG. The reigning European champions smelt blood in the water and went for the jugular.

"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear," said Glenn Hoddle on TNT Sports. "Jorgensen there makes an absolute error. There's no angle to play that pass, with the left foot as well. He drags it across.

"It's too risky! I've got to say, Vitinha takes it beautifully. It pops up in the air, you think is he going to smash it? But it's not, it's a lovely little lob. Talk about self-inflicted. Chelsea, they were defending superbly well."

Hoddle later added: "Wow, how this game has been turned on its head. Beautiful bit of play here, lovely skill. They're in behind, it's a lovely little position that Kvaratskhelia picks up on the penalty spoke.

"[Achraf] Hakimi has time to look up, passes it across the box here. He hits the target, he doesn't hit it that well. Jorgensen can't get down quick enough."

Speaking to reporters in the French capital on Tuesday afternoon, Liam Rosenior commented on the situation between the sticks. The Chelsea boss said: "No, of course not. With this squad, every position is a difficult position.

"That's how it has to be for us to be successful. We have a fantastic squad, top players. Not even just the starting XI, making a decision who's on the bench is difficult. That's the job that I'm here to do.

"We'll make that decision in terms of the goalkeeping position, in terms of the No.9 or No.10 or No.7 position. I've said before, for me, the goalkeeper position is no different to an outfield position.

"I will pick what I think is the right choice for each game."

Malo Gusto, who sat beside his head coach, insisted that it makes little difference to him as a defender if the goalkeeper is rotated. He said: "No, I don't think so. We're all training in the same way on the training ground."

Earlier this month, Rosenior revealed that Jorgensen had earned his place in the starting lineup after catching the eye in training. Speaking on Match of the Day via the BBC, the Chelsea boss said: "Rob [Sanchez] is an outstanding goalkeeper and I just saw Filip [Jorgensen] in training and sometimes as a manager you have to go with your gut.

"Filip gave us something different [in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa] and they will both be fighting it out for the rest of the season."
