A tornado warning has been activated for sections of Baltimore County and the northeastern parts of Baltimore, Maryland, due to a severe thunderstorm that has the potential to spawn a tornado, as reported by the National Weather Service. The warning was issued at 7:30 PM EDT on March 11, 2026, and is set to remain in effect until 7:45 PM EDT for central Baltimore County and northeastern Baltimore City.
Meteorologists indicated that the storm was situated over Towson or near Pikesville, Maryland, and was advancing eastward at a speed of 50 mph. Radar data showed signs of rotation within the storm, heightening the risk of a tornado.
Areas likely to be affected by the storm include Baltimore, Towson, Parkville, Carney, Perry Hall, Rossville, Timonium, White Marsh, Hampton, and Lutherville-Timonium around 7:35 PM EDT. Other communities that may experience the storm's impact are Fullerton, Ruxton, Lutherville, Loch Raven Village, Eudowood, Riderwood, Loch Raven, and Brooklandville.
Officials have cautioned that flying debris poses a significant danger to anyone outside if a tornado were to touch down. Possible consequences include damage to roofs, siding, and windows, destruction of mobile homes, and significant tree damage. The severe thunderstorm may also produce hail the size of peas.
A warning graphic indicated that around 210,486 residents, 39 schools, and four hospitals are situated within the highlighted risk zone east of Baltimore. This alert is part of Tornado Watch 45, which has been expanded statewide due to level 2 severe weather threats on Wednesday evening.
Authorities have advised residents to seek immediate shelter, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, and to avoid windows. Those who are outdoors, in vehicles, or in mobile homes should find the nearest substantial shelter to protect themselves from flying debris.
