Pants Below Ankles Islam: The religion of Islam is based on five fundamental pillars, which include martyrdom, namaz, zakat, roza and hajj. It is the duty of every true Muslim to fulfill these five pillars. In Islam, prayers five times a day have been prescribed, which has been declared a duty on every Muslim. Namaz has to be offered at five times - Fajr, Jauhar, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. There are some rules and regulations in Islam for offering Namaz, which need to be kept in mind. Some of the rituals of Namaz are – purity, clean place and clothes, covering the body, Qibla direction, intention and Khushu. Another one of these precautions mentioned for Muslim men is to wear pants or pajamas above the ankle.
You must have often seen that Muslims mostly wear high pants or pajamas. But women wear clothes below the ankle. The question that comes in the minds of many people is why is it considered wrong for Muslim men to wear long pants or pajamas and if Namaz is offered wearing pants below the ankle, then is the Namaz not accepted? Let us know what has been said about this in Islam.
wearing pants below the ankle
In Islam, it is considered haram (forbidden) for men to wear pants (or any clothing worn below the waist) below the ankles – known as 'Isbal'. The main reason for this is that it is considered a sign of arrogance, pride and boasting. Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has said that any part of the clothes that hangs below the ankles will burn in the fire of hell.
Identification of show off and pride
In Islam, wearing pants or pajamas below the ankles for men is considered a sign of arrogance and show off, which Muslims have been advised to avoid. This is the Sunnah (tradition) of Prophet Mohammad, the purpose of which is to maintain simplicity and prevent clothes from getting dirty during namaz. If a Muslim wears pants or pajamas below the ankles, it is important for him to take special care that the clothes do not touch the ground while walking.
- Distance from ego:- According to the Hadith, Allah does not like the person who wears clothes below the ankles for pride or show off.
- Protection of Sunnah:- It is mentioned in the Hadiths that Prophet Mohammad used to keep clothes higher than the ankles, hence it is considered Sunnah.
- Cleanliness (Taharat): Wearing pajamas above the ankles protects the clothes from dirt on the ground, which is necessary for offering Namaz.
- Ease of Namaz:- Short clothes make it easier to perform ablution and namaz.
Prophet Muhammad's order
Prophet Muhammad ordered to stop the clothes of Muslim men from falling below the ankles. However, the Prophet Muhammad's command to prevent clothing from falling below the ankles did not apply to those who wear pants, provided they do not drag them on the ground. If a Muslim wears pants or pajamas below the ankles, his namaz will still be performed and there is no harm in it. But wearing pants or pajamas above the ankle is considered better for Muslim men and is the Sunnah of the Prophet.
Order for women to wear clothes below the ankle
If we look at it for women, in Islam the ankles are considered a private part of the woman's body, which must be covered in front of non-Mahram men (any person other than brother, husband, son and father) and in public places. Women are not prohibited from hanging their clothes below the ankles, whereas this rule applies only to men.
In Islam, it is advisable for men to keep their pants above the ankle bone. If they hang down, they should be lifted up. During Namaz, special care should be taken that the ankles are not covered. These rules apply only to men, not to women. Women's clothes should cover their legs.
