Mumbai, March 13, 2026: The North Regional Cyber Cell of Mumbai Police has busted a large network of cyber crime and arrested a 25-year-old Point of Sale (POS) agent. These accused had misused the Aadhaar cards of innocent people and sold more than 300 SIM cards to cyber fraudsters, which were used for online fraud across the country.

According to the police, the name of the arrested accused is Kamal Pukhraj Kuldeep. He used to work as a POS agent for private telecom companies. Kuldeep obtained the Aadhaar card details of many people without their knowledge and on the basis of that, got SIM cards issued and passed them on to cyber criminals. Using this SIM card, a huge network of mobile phones was used to operate.

Police investigation has revealed that a 66 year old man from Goregam (who is a retired Assistant Officer of Western Railway) was targeted using this SIM card. The fraudsters had threatened the old man with ‘digital arrest’ by identifying themselves as officers of a legal agency. The accused had claimed that the old man’s name was involved in a serious case and if he did not cooperate, he would be jailed. Out of fear the old man had transferred Rs 29 lakh to different accounts. Later, realizing that Chhetarpindi was a fraud, he lodged a police complaint.

According to Cyber Cell officials, intensive investigation is going on to find out how many SIM cards have been issued by the accused and who all are involved in this entire racket. Meanwhile, the police has appealed to the citizens not to be afraid of scary calls coming from any unknown number. Be alert immediately if someone demands money in the name of ‘digital arrest’ investigation. Please ensure before doing online transaction. Also, if any such incident occurs, immediately inform on the cyber helpline number.
