Good Morning Britain sparked outrage this morning as it launched a poll about whether or not Prince Harry, who quit royal life over six years ago, should become King. The ITV morning show issued the poll on X with the simple question "Should Prince Harry be King?".
The poll was a follow up to the story they were covering that Princess Diana reportedly always felt her youngest son Harry would be more suited to the role than Prince William, who is currently first-in-line to the throne. Veteran royal writer Richard Kay, who was friends with Diana, said on the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential podcast: "She (Princess Diana), in her mind, was preparing the way for the possibility that it would be Harry who succeeded his father.
"She had a nickname for Harry: She used to call him 'Good King Harry' - a throwback to medieval days."
While the poll results on Good Morning Britain saw almost 80 per cent of people respond no, suggesting they don't think Harry should be King, the poll itself still sparked outrage among viewers.
One person commented: "You do understand that we don't vote for our monarch, don't you? This pathetic poll should be taken down asap!"
Another X user wrote: "That is the most ridiculous poll I've ever seen!!!! GMB. Do better."
Someone else said: "No no no no no!! Why are you even asking this question? He is a traitor! We already have a King in waiting! He needs to stay in Montecito with Meghan Markle!"
Despite the fact Prince Harry left royal duty and the UK behind, the Duke of Sussex is still in the line of succession.
Harry is currently fifth-in-line to the throne, with his older brother Prince William first-in-line to the throne.
William is then followed by his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Prince Harry's two children are also in the line of succession, with Prince Archie in sixth position and Princess Lilibet seventh.
