The Disney Plus drama, inspired by the real-life and tragic marriage of John F Kennedy Jr, also delves into his troubled business.
Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette is currently streaming, but the latest episode explores aspects beyond their relationship.
The series itself is based on the book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, penned by Elizabeth Beller.
Whilst the spotlight is on the relationship between the son of a former US President and a successful fashion executive, other significant moments and individuals are also depicted.
This includes JFK Jr's attempts at launching and managing a magazine and the tense business partnership. But what was George magazine? What became of the publication? Here's everything you need to know.
What was George magazine?
Despite JFK Jr earning a law degree and passing the bar exam on his third attempt so he could work in the District Attorney's office, he eventually changed careers and ventured into journalism. He wrote an article for The New York Times in the summer of 1992 and this seemed to inspire him to launch his own publication, George.
JFK Jr envisioned it would become akin to Rolling Stone , Esquire or Vanity Fair. The concept was to combine politics with the themes of celebrity and media titles , reports the Mirror.
He wanted it to motivate the public to find politics just as intriguing to read about as gossip columns.
He teamed up with his friend Michael Berman who operated a PR firm at the time for the project. A monthly publication, its debut issue launched in September 1995.
Notable contributors included George Clooney and Sylvester Stallone's mother Jackie.
However, by 1997, JFK Jr and Berman found themselves in a power struggle. As seen in the latest episode of Love Story, this would often result in shouting matches and at least one physical altercation.
Berman sold his shares to JFK Jr, leaving him solely in charge.
What happened to George magazine?
JFK Jr was unable to reverse the magazine's decline. Nor could he persuade critics who he thought did not take it seriously enough and believed the magazine was for people who did not understand politics.
The company which published the magazine was Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. who also printed titles including Elle, Car and Driver and Cycle World. Their CEO believed JFK Jr did not take enough risks as an editor.
Unable to boost advertising revenue under a new Editor-in-Chief, the final issue was printed in January 2001, two years after JFK Jr's death. As for Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., the company was acquired in 2011 and absorbed into Hearst Magazines.
As per a report by Vice News, one past issue of the magazine has maintained its popularity in certain circles. The February 1997 edition, bearing the tagline "Survival Guide to the Future", where Kennedy interviews Bill Gates, is among the most coveted issues by conspiracy theorists, with one copy online being listed for a staggering $3,499.99.
