Hit drama Death in Paradise has confirmed the return of one star, and fans are delighted. The 15th season of the long-running detective drama is currently airing on BBC One, with DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) and the team investigating more mysterious deaths in Saint Marie.
Following Mervin, Naomi (played by Shantol Jackson) and Selwyn's (Don Warrington) adventures in Antigua, the penultimate episode returned to Saint Marie, with the lead character trying to come to terms with his kidnapping and the truth about his brother.
Mervin quickly returned to work, following the death of the local newspaper's agony aunt, Hortense LeRoux (Anna Savva). At the start of the episode, the Commissioner and Mayor Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) were seen attending Hortense's retirement party. Sadly, the festivities ended in tragedy, as Hortense was poisoned the following morning, all whilst reading her final advice column.
Fans also spotted a familiar face at the party, with journalist Anton Busette (Gary Wilmot) notably in attendance. This isn't the first time Anton has appeared on the show.
Viewers will know that he caused quite a stir earlier in the season with his ability to try and bring down the police force and discredit the Commissioner.
The character quickly became a person of interest during Friday's (March 13) episode, as he was the ex-husband of the deceased agony aunt. Sharing her thoughts on Anton, Mayor Bordey said: "Men like him [are] hungry lions, looking at you like you're a tasty steak at a buffet."
Despite his character's flaws, Death in Paradise fans were delighted to see British icon Gary Wilmot return to his role, with many sharing their excitement on social media. "Ooh! Gary Wilmot back on #DeathinParadise!" one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), with another adding a series of celebratory emojis.
A third said: "Keep thinking about how my dad has played football with Gary Wilmot and seeing him as Anton is so weird," while another fan shared concerns about Gary's character, saying: "I'm sensing bad vibes from Gary Wilmot's character."
Later in the episode, Mervin and Naomi got Mayor Bordey to go undercover and get information from Anton, with the journalist soon offloading some of his secrets.
Revealing that Hortense's daughter, Esme (Emma McDonald), wasn't her biological child, Anton said: "She took her from Paris when she was a baby. Her mother wasn't able to take care of her, a drug addict I believe... Hortense couldn't have children."
Anton then explained that Hortense moved to Saint Marie and forged Esme's birth certificate to make it look like she was her biological child. However, the mood soon shifted when Anton realised he was being recorded, with the journalist warning Mervin: "This won't be the last you hear of me, I'll be calling your Commissioner." Was Anton guilty of killing his ex-wife?
