In a commanding performance, Uruguay secured a 3-0 win against Austria during their 5/8th place match at the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026, held at the G. M. C. Balayogi Hockey Ground in Hyderabad, Telangana, on Friday. The goals for Uruguay were netted by Teresa Viana, who scored twice (21', 44'), and Captain Manuela Vilar (4').

Meanwhile, Wales triumphed over Korea with a score of 2-1. Captain Elizabeth Bingham was instrumental, scoring both goals for Wales in the 49th and 53rd minutes, while Yeongeun Park managed to score for Korea in the 46th minute.

In the semi-finals of the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026, England comfortably defeated Scotland 2-0. Lottie Bingham (25') and Drcy Bourne (29') were the goal scorers, ensuring England's place in the final.

The Indian Women's Hockey team also secured their final spot by narrowly beating Italy 1-0, with Manisha Chauhan scoring the decisive goal in the 40th minute. India is set to face England in the final match on Saturday.

The match between India and Italy was fiercely contested, particularly in the first quarter, where both teams fought hard for midfield control. India began with strong offensive plays, but Italy responded with aggressive attacks, creating several scoring opportunities.

India regained momentum in the second quarter, utilizing their flanks effectively to advance the ball and mount attacks. They earned their first penalty corner in the 18th minute, but Navneet Kaur's attempt was expertly saved by Italian goalkeeper Lucia Ines Caruso.

Another penalty corner was awarded to India in the 27th minute, featuring a strategic play that was thwarted by an Italian defender on the line. A subsequent penalty corner in the 29th minute saw Navneet Kaur's shot miss the target.

India will face England in the final on March 14 at 7:30 PM IST.
