She recounted their first meeting during a film shoot in Ooty while she was trying to establish herself in the industry. Kumar Sanu was vacationing in Ooty with his sister and nephew, which led to their closeness.

Kunika's Perspective on Their Bond

Kunika revealed that there was an incident when Kumar was heavily intoxicated and attempted to jump out of a hotel window. Fortunately, he was stopped, which brought them closer together. After returning from Ooty, Kumar began living separately from his wife, and their relationship deepened, although they kept it private. Kunika mentioned that they were together for about five years, stating, 'I considered myself like a wife to him; I viewed him as my husband.'

However, Kumar Sanu's first wife began facing challenges due to their relationship. She often blamed Kunika whenever Kumar delayed sending money. Kunika recounted an incident where, out of anger over not receiving money, Kumar's wife damaged his car with a hockey stick.

She also noted that his wife would come to their home and shout. Kunika understood her frustrations, recognizing that she was primarily concerned about her children’s financial needs rather than Kumar himself. Eventually, Kunika and Kumar's relationship came to an end, after which he married Saloni Bhattacharya.
