Doctor finds three cars blocking his driveway but gets 'satisfying' revenge

A doctor was irate after a group of backpackers parked their large cars on his driveway and blocked access to his home, so he decided to take some "satisfying" revenge.

It can be a challenge to find reasonably priced and secure places to park but it's safe to assume all sensible and considerate people know parking on someone else's property is a massive faux pas. And if your parked vehicle makes someone's home inaccessible to them, then you've really overstepped the mark.

This was the predicament one doctor, who lives in a semi-rural area on a sprawling ranch-style estate in Montana, USA, found himself in. He returned home one day to find three large cars blocking his driveway - and they were left there for several days while the drivers went off on a hike and camping trip - blissfully unaware of the parking mayhem they'd left behind.

The doctor's house is nestled within expansive, mature grounds, parts of which he leases out to people who "know what they're doing". Upon moving in, he had the boundaries assessed by a professional and then marked out by a fence.

He installed "no trespassing" signs in an effort to ensure passers-by were aware they were approaching private property.

His driveway is lengthy and private, accessible from a main road. Upon arriving home one afternoon, he discovered three cars obstructing it, preventing him from reaching his house by car.

The entrance to his driveway connects to a public road roughly three quarters of a mile from his house, forcing the doctor to leave his own vehicle behind and walk nearly a mile to his front door on foot.

With "drainage ditches on either side" of the driveway, moving around or driving past the parked cars wasn't possible.

He contemplated towing the vehicles away but worried about the potential legal consequences, so contacted local police for advice on the best course of action - while also ensuring there'd be an official "witness".

Once the local sheriff confirmed he was entitled to take action regarding the parked cars, he held off a bit longer hoping the owners might return to collect their vehicles.

After three days, he'd "had enough" and decided to sort things himself. On Reddit, he explained: "I drove out to the cars with some wooden cribbing, and a high-lift jack, and jacked the cars up, put cribbing down, and left the cars there, wheels up in the air.

"It took two more days before anyone showed up. Eight people showed up, angry because their cars had been essentially booted. They really didn't like it when I told them they owed me for parking, and damage done to the road, because they blocked it."

The drivers were fuming when the doctor then demanded compensation for parking and the damage caused to his driveway. They insisted they were unaware they'd been trespassing but their claims were dismissed, especially as the police were well aware of the situation and were on the doctor's side.

A month down the line, the doctor faced legal action from the drivers, but he launched a counterclaim - and won. The judge ruled the drivers must cover the costs of resurfacing the road, in addition for paying for storage charges and punitive damages.

The doctor shared: "It took a year, but I got the payment from the third hiker last week. I decided that the money will go to help pay for my annual summer BBQ for the county's emergency responders".

In response, one Reddit user said: "In the country, or the city or in the suburbs: what kind of idiot blocks a driveway??!"

Another said: "This was one of the most satisfying posts I've read on here in a long time!"

Someone else added: "What a heartwarming revenge story!" Though some readers questioned whether the story was genuine.
