Mysuru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said he would remain in politics and continue serving people as long as he lives.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Beereshwara Swamy Temple in Varakodu village of the Varuna Assembly constituency, Siddaramaiah appealed to the people to support and nurture his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah politically just as they had supported him.

He said that even when he had faced electoral defeats in the past, he had never stopped serving the people. “I may not be able to visit the constituency frequently, but my son Yathindra will come here. Just as you helped me grow in politics, support and help Yathindra grow as well,” he urged the people.

Recalling his long association with the region, Siddaramaiah said he had first contested the taluk board elections in 1978 from the same area. Since the beginning of his political career, he said, he has received strong public support.

The Chief Minister added that the people of the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency and Varuna constituencies had consistently supported him over the years. With their blessings, he said, he had the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister and as Finance Minister and present the state budget 17 times.

He also noted that he had contested 13 elections, losing four of them, but said the people’s support had remained strong throughout his political journey.
