In this article, we will delve into the date of Akshaya Tritiya, its worship practices, and its significance.

When is Akshaya Tritiya Celebrated?

Akshaya Tritiya Tithi

The Tritiya Tithi (Shukla Paksha) in Vaishakh begins on April 19 at 10:50 AM and concludes on April 20 at 7:28 AM. Therefore, Akshaya Tritiya will be observed on April 19.

Rituals for Worship on Akshaya Tritiya

On Akshaya Tritiya, it is customary to wake up before dawn and take a ritual bath. After bathing, one should wear clean attire and purify the worship area with sacred Ganges water. A red or yellow cloth is then spread over a Chowki (low stool) or Asana (seat), where the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu are placed.

With water, Akshat (unbroken rice), and flowers in hand, devotees make a solemn pledge (Sankalp) to observe a fast. Following this, Roli (red sacred powder), sandalwood paste, turmeric, and Kumkum (vermilion) are applied as Tilaks (sacred marks) on the idols.

Yellow flowers are offered to Lord Vishnu, while lotus or pink flowers are given to Goddess Lakshmi. Incense sticks are lit, and a Diya (oil lamp) filled with Ghee (clarified butter) is placed at the worship site.

As Naivedya (sacred food offering), devotees present *Sattu* (roasted flour) made from barley or wheat, along with fruits, sweets, and soaked chickpeas to the deities. Reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama (The Thousand Names of Vishnu) is highly meritorious. Listening to or reading the sacred stories related to Akshaya Tritiya is also encouraged. The worship concludes with the *Aarti* of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, followed by donations of food, clothing, water, fruits, gold, or silver to those in need, as per one's ability.

The Importance of Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is believed to bring eternal rewards for any virtuous actions performed on this day. Engaging in charity, meditation, bathing in the holy Ganges, and performing religious rituals are highly recommended.
