LPG Cylinder Delivery Scam: Amidst the shortage of LPG cylinders, scams have begun to emerge under the guise of cylinder delivery services. Scammers are extorting money from people by promising to deliver cylinders.
LPG Cylinder Delivery Scam: Currently, many cities across the country are facing a shortage of LPG cylinders. Long queues for cylinders have started forming once again, creating a situation of panic among the public. Taking advantage of this situation, scammers are now targeting unsuspecting individuals. Scammers are sending messages via WhatsApp, social media platforms, and SMS with the slogan, "Pay Now, Get Gas Tomorrow." If you have received such a message, exercise extreme caution. This is not a genuine offer of assistance, but rather a message related to a new scam operating under the pretext of gas delivery.
How the Scam Begins
Scammers promise people that if they make an immediate payment, an LPG cylinder will be delivered to them the very next day. These messages typically contain an embedded link. People who are waiting for an LPG cylinder, mistaking the link for a legitimate one, proceed to make the payment; however, they never receive the cylinder. Their money ends up in the scammers' bank accounts.
Scammers Are Also Relying on Fake Websites
In addition to sending messages, scammers are misusing the logos of major gas companies to run fraudulent advertisements. Furthermore, they are using fake websites to extort money from people under the guise of gas bookings. These websites are designed so deceptively that it has become difficult for people to distinguish between the genuine sites and the fake ones.
Gas Companies Issue Advisory to Customers
All major gas companies—including Indane, BharatGas, and HP—have advised their customers to remain vigilant and protect themselves from such scams. If you wish to book an LPG cylinder, you should do so exclusively through the respective company's official website. These companies never request advance payments via text messages or links.
How to Avoid Such Scams?
Always use the official website or your authorized dealer's contact number to book an LPG cylinder. Do not click on links received from unknown individuals on social media or WhatsApp.
Do not enter your payment and card details on websites that appear suspicious.
Do not share your OTPs or banking details with anyone.
