The petha industry in Agra is reportedly on the brink of a crisis due to claims of a shortage of commercial LPG gas, leading to a near shutdown of gas-dependent petha units. This assertion was made by individuals associated with the industry on Saturday.
A senior official from the district administration has countered these claims, stating that there is no actual gas shortage and that strict action will be taken against those spreading misinformation.
Rajesh Agarwal, president of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Petha Cottage Association, highlighted the significant impact of the gas supply disruption on the petha business. He noted that some units are on the verge of closure, while others are managing to produce with the limited gas they have left.
Agarwal warned that if the gas supply does not stabilize soon, the remaining units will also shut down. Business owners expressed concern that the gas shortage is severely affecting their operations, leading to a halt in work for laborers and creating a livelihood crisis.
They have urged the administration to expedite the supply of commercial gas to save the petha industry. However, District Magistrate Arvind Malappa Bangari reiterated on Friday that there is no gas shortage and that action will be taken against those spreading false rumors.
