Bayer Leverkusen handed Arsenal injury scare after Nicolas Jackson sent off for horror tackle
Football | March 15, 2026 1:39 AM CST

Bayer Leverkusen may be without a key player when they head to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, as a result of a horrific tackle from Nicolas Jackson.

Bayern Munich were reduced to 10 men just 42 minutes into their Bundesliga clash with Die Werkself on Saturday afternoon, when Chelsea loanee Jackson saw red for a late challenge on the ankle of Martin Terrier.

Despite returning to the field after the break, Terrier was replaced by Ibrahim Maza just two minutes into the second-half, in what could come as a major concern for the Bundesliga challengers.

That's because Leverkusen make the trip to north London in the Champions League on Tuesday evening to face Arsenal in the second-leg of their round of 16 tie.

While Kasper Hjulmand's side head into the fixture on a level playing field, courtesy of Leverkusen's 1-1 draw with the Gunners in the reverse at the BayArena on Wednesday, he could potentially be without one of his key players in Terrier for the encounter.

The left winger has been a regular for Leverkusen this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists from 16 Bundesliga appearances - and could prove a handful for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal if fit.

That's dependent on the severity of the 29-year-old's issues after being fouled by Jackson; however, Leverkusen may have to field Maza come Tuesday evening should Terrier face a spell on the sidelines.

It comes as Jackson's first hiccup in an otherwise solid spell with Bayern Munich, after joining the Bavarians in the summer on a season-long loan.

To date, the Senegalese striker has managed seven goals and three assists from 24 appearances across all competitions this season, despite stiff competition from the likes of Harry Kane.

However, he could now face a three-match ban as a result of seeing red against Bayer Leverkusen. It's the third red card of Jackson's career since becoming a Chelsea player, previously being sent off against Newcastle United and Flamengo for the Blues.

Prior to their clash with Leverkusen, Arsenal turn their attention to the Premier League on Saturday evening when they play host to Everton in north London.

Arteta's side has thrived domestically this season, with the Gunners currently sitting top of the Premier League standings, seven points clear of Manchester City with just nine games to go.

However, City have a game in hand over Arsenal, and the two teams are set to clash in April.
