Today is World Sleep Day 2026

World Sleep Day 2026 is being celebrated today in the country and the world. It is also called World Rest Day. Many events have been organized for this, which make people aware about sleep and its effects and needs. Promoting sleep health has become very important in today’s lifestyle. Sleep protects us from diseases and keeps immunity strong. This year’s theme is also based on this – ‘Sleep well, live a better life’.

How dangerous is mobile for sleep?

According to doctors, using mobile phone before sleeping has become a common habit nowadays. Many people keep scrolling social media, watching videos or chatting for a long time even after going to bed. This not only delays the sleeping time but also affects the quality of sleep.

Dangerous blue rays emanate from the screen

Experts say that the blue light emitted from the screens of mobiles, laptops and tablets affects the natural sleep cycle of our body. This light signals the brain that it is daytime, due to which the process of production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin starts happening less and more slowly. Due to this, a person gets late in sleeping and does not get deep sleep.

What will happen if you continuously get poor sleep?

According to sleep experts, if a person continuously gets less or poor sleep then both his body and mind are affected. Due to this he feels tired and irritable throughout the day. Such people have difficulty concentrating at work and their ability to work may also decrease. If such a situation persists for a long time, the risk of mental stress, obesity, high BP and heart diseases increases to a great extent.

What do experts say?

Dr. Pavitra Shankar, Associate Consultant, Department of Psychiatry at Aakash Healthcare, says that excessive use of mobile phone and social media before sleeping is the biggest reason for sleep problems today. The blue rays emitted from the screen affect the body’s biological clock i.e. circadian rhythm. This reduces the secretion of melatonin. Due to this, the person gets late sleep and the quality of sleep also deteriorates.

How to improve sleep quality?

The doctor says that for better sleep, one should stop using mobile and other digital devices at least one hour before sleeping. Apart from this, reducing mobile use in the bedroom and doing quiet activities like reading a book or listening to light music before sleeping can also be beneficial.

It is necessary to limit the use of mobile-laptop

Experts also recommend that you try to limit screen time during the day. If you have to stay on the screen for a long time due to work, then take breaks in between and give rest to your eyes.

Make lifestyle changes

Health experts say that good sleep is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, it is important to use digital devices in a balanced manner and distance yourself from screens before sleeping. This will not only improve sleep, but will also provide adequate rest to both body and mind.
