Actor Yash is now considered one of the biggest 'Mass heroes' of south cinema . However, his journey to fame began with humble beginnings which is surely inspiring.

Yash earlier worked in theatre and television, starting with the Kannada television show 'Nanda Gokula' and later appearing in supporting roles in several serials.

Among the shows he worked in were 'Silli Lalli', 'Mukta', and 'Malebillu'. One of his early notable film roles came with 'Modalasala' in 2010.

Building a strong presence in Kannada cinema

Yash had already established himself as a leading star in the Kannada film industry before achieving pan-India star status.

He gained popularity through films like 'Googly' (2013) and 'Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari' (2014). The latter became one of the highest-grossing Kannada films of its time. His on-screen chemistry with actress Radhika Pandit was widely appreciated by audiences.

During the trailer launch event of the film Manada Kadalu, Yash explained, “When I entered the industry, I worked hard to establish myself as an actor and aimed to make the most of every opportunity. I would ask directors for a complete script before committing to a project, which some did not appreciate. As a result, I was labeled as arrogant. My only question was—how could I trust a story and sign a film without reading the script? Due to this, I lost many opportunities.”

Turning point with ' K.G.F: Chapter 1 '

Yash’s career took a massive turn with the release of 'K.G.F: Chapter 1' in 2018 which was directed by Prashanth Neel.

The action epic was released in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. In the film, Yash played the role of Rocky, a charismatic gangster who rises to power in the Kolar Gold Fields.

The film was made on a budget of around Rs 80 crore and went on to collect more than Rs 238 crore worldwide.

Sequel success strengthens national fame

The success of the first film brought nationwide attention to both Yash and the Kannada film industry. This momentum grew even bigger with the release of ' K.G.F: Chapter 2 ' in 2022.

The sequel turned out to be a massive blockbuster and reportedly crossed Rs 1,200 crore at the global box office.

Actor opens up on fame and success

Yash has often maintained a grounded outlook toward fame. In a 2023 interview with The Week, the actor spoke about his perspective on being called a superstar: “In my head, I will be a superstar for myself. So, when people call me that, I am happy, but it will not change anything, according to me."

Yash also spoke about his family’s struggles during his early years. He acknowledged that people’s behaviour towards them changed after success arrived. However, he added that he does not blame anyone for it. His journey from a theatre worker earning around Rs 50 a day to a global star continues to inspire many aspiring actors across India.

After the 'KGF' franchise, the actor also secured major pan-India projects, including playing the role of Ravana in 'Ramayana' directed by Nitesh Tiwari and the upcoming actioner 'Toxic,' directed by Geethu Mohandas.
