Throughout the UK, winter has caused lawns to appear yellow, uneven, and spongy when walked on. Experts caution that during this early-spring time, one particular mineral can determine if moss or grass will dominate.
To get your lawn healthier than ever, gardening expert Geoff Hodge took to the Richard Jackson Garden website to share his top tips, one of which is feeding. He pointed out that feeding does make lawns "grow more quickly", but it also does "other vital things" that will help ensure "your lawn makes everyone who sees it green with envy". George explained: "Regular mowing removes a lot of nutrients, and for a lawn that looks fabulous, lush and green, you need to replace these nutrients with a lawn feed.
"Good feeding also makes the grass thicker, stronger and healthier, so it is better equipped to fight off moss, weeds and even drought stress in summer and cold and wet stress in winter."
The gardening pro highlighted that liquid lawn feeds are a great choice as they start to work straight away, are far less likely to burn the grass than granular feeds and are less dependent on correct weather conditions.
George advised that if you want to get great results, follow the lead of greenkeepers and groundspeople and use a "professional" feed.
By this, he means to use a product containing iron sulphate, which will also help to keep moss in check.

Iron sulphate is a popular choice for lawns. It is well-known for its effectiveness in managing or eliminating moss.
However, it does more than that; it also aids grass in photosynthesis, which contributes to a vibrant green colour while enriching the soil with essential nutrients.
Applied in normal amounts, it blackens the moss while giving the grass extra iron for greener growth.
It must be stressed that you must never scatter plain iron, only products where it is diluted in sand, fertiliser or water.
