Bantwal: The body of a youth who had gone missing after jumping into the Netravati river at Sarapady was recovered from the river on Saturday, March 14. The deceased has been identified as Yashodhara (40), a resident of Kadabettu near Vagga.
He had left home for work around 6 am on March 13. He reached Sarapady and subsequently ended his life by jumping into the Netravati river.
After having breakfast at a hotel in Sarapady, he arrived at the riverbank. He had brought an extra pair of clothes from home, which he placed near the river steps along with his slippers before jumping into the water.
Locals, who spotted the clothes and footwear on the bank, suspected that someone had fallen into the river and launched a search, but he could not be traced initially.
On Saturday morning, a boatman named Isaac spotted the body in the river and brought it to the shore before informing the concerned individuals. Although originally from Kadabettu, Yashodhara resided mostly at his wife’s house in Agaragandi, Maninalkur village, near Sarapady. He worked as a daily wage laborer in the locality.
A case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station.
